Letter writing may be a thing of the past, but to the thousands of women who served in Vietnam as nurses, and in support and technical services, letters from home provided a moment of peace in world of chaos. Reading a letter from a loved one is an act of intimacy. We hear their voice and feel their hand in heft of the pages and the slant of the script. For those in foreign countries and unknowable circumstances, a simple letter from home becomes a talisman of love and a saving grace.
